15 JUL 2010

This morning we woke up to sunshine but cool air. I think that as the clouds slowly dissipate the nights will be cooler. However, our sleeping bags are really warm so not a problem.

I was still tired and did not want to do anything too strenuous, so was asked to lead the group that were only interested in easier level hikes. I agreed since I had a bit of a headache and no energy after the day hike of yesterday. Wes wanted to do a hike but it was a medium level. In order for a hike to go out there must be a minimum of 6 hikers in the group. Unfortunately, he was not able to get enough so he joined a different hike and they had fun.

With my group we decided to take a easy, relaxing and photo based hike to the meadows. This meant that we strolled rather than hiked with lots of stops to discuss flowers, take pictures and work on our knowledge of vegetation. Can you believe that flowers have different names than: Yellow One and Another Yellow One? To add variety we also saw Red One and Another Red One. Needless to say we were well prepared to go on a flower walk and identify all the potential flowers.

We did come across one that has stumped us totally in identifying..still working on it. It had a very large stem like a cactus and white/creamy flowers on top like a thistle flower. We have been looking through flower books so if you know what it is, please let me know.

Back to camp by 2 so we had lots of time to relax, clean up and relax before the hectic social camp life took hold. Remember tea at 4, happy hour at 5, dinner at 6, trail leader’s meeting at 7:30 and donut at 8. Did I explain what donut is? Well it is a round tent with a huge hole in the center of the roof. We sit around inside with a camp fire burning. We tell ourselves, as we sing songs and talk about camp stuff that the smoke helps keep the mosquitoes away – wait, there are none it has been too cold.

Well another day has been completed.. now to relax, sleep and gear up for tomorrow.
