17 JUL 2010

We awoke early today to a bright blue sky. What a glorious day this looks to be. The day starts at 6:15 since we need to get our duffels ready for pick up by 7:30 at the latest. Sounds simple, but.. .here is what it involves:

• Getting out of the sleeping bag to discover frost around outside and cold damp clothes inside

• Dressing while sitting on a bed flat on the ground while trying to keep your feet off the dirt floor

• Realizing that your bladder is bursting since I refuse to get up in the middle of the night because of the two reasons just mentioned

• Try to tie up some boots, again keeping your feet clear of the floor until they are shod

• Now after the morning constitution, we have less than an hour to organize, pack and move duffels so....

• Pack sleeping bags, pillows, let out the air in the mattress (yes did you think I slept on the roots only?), sort clothes, (dirty or clean) and pack up the rest of the items.

• Wait.. forgot I need some things for hiking out, so back through the duffels pulling out items

• Wow, it is now 7:15 and the clock is ticking but we are done... I hope!!!

• NOW I CAN HAVE A COFFEE... can you believe I have managed all this without a coffee yet? Yes I know cruelity

Ok, now you understand the amount of effort it takes to get ready to leave camp after only being there 6 days.

The duffels are done, the tent is bare and clean and our backpacks are sitting ready for the trek out... all by 7:30. Ok, we get breakfast now and pick up lunches so that takes a bit of time. We rush out to get ready to hike....only to stand around until 10:30 to leave. Yep you read that right...we rushed to stand around... go figure.

Well it is great day, sunny and when in the sunshine warm. We had a great hike out while looking at the mountains framed in brilliant blue sky – no clouds. The rock on the mountains is a greystone color that has shadows that define depth and create the 3 dimension view. Unless you have experienced the beauty of the Rocky Mountains, you would not be able to visualize the incredible splendour you experience as you look from the green slopes up the grey walls to the snow caps with a sense of power and strength emanating forth.

We are not in Lake Louise where we will spend two nights before heading into the back country again to Lake O’Hara. Time for me to post this and get some sleep.
