Day 1 – 10-Jul-2010

Finally we started the trek. Packing, organizing, anguishing, and planning finally was achieved. A true test of a relationship has to be preparing to leave on an extended trip by car with a multiple of activities embedded. I am happy to report that melt-down did not occur even when moments of frustration expressed itself.

Our goal was to leave by 9 am and we managed to be out the door by 9:10 so we felt successful in that regards. However, as we prepared to leave we remembered a thank you card was forgotten to be delivered and with no postal address we had to find plan B. Thanks Alicia and Anne.

I am still not sure what I will be writing in this blog, but will try not to be boring or too much like a slideshow – you know the ones you sat through after someone’s trip for a couple of hours late one evening after drinks and work attempting to smile and look interested when your eyes were drooping closed?

Highlights:

Stopped in Salmon Arm to have coffee with Dan and Kelly.

Stopped in Revelstoke for lunch and so did half the population of BC...didn’t see any of you there. So we decided Golden might be a good option....we found the other half of BC – still no sight of any of you.

Met the rest of the Kamloop Skyliners for dinner tonight at the Irish Pub. I will not bore you with what we ate and drank, but it was good.

It rained after dinner, so the air is cool and fresh. I look forward to a good sleep in the Rocky Mountain B & B.

Pain of the Day: The drivers on the number 1 – CRAZY... did I mention they were crazy? One pickup decided that the shoulder of the road was a good passing lane and used it to pass a string of cars. Another was convinced the biker should be a hood ornament and tried to pick him up.. fortunately unsuccessfully since the biker got out of his way in time.

Well that finishes this first report on the trip. We are in Banff and tomorrow will take a hike in the Sunshine area. Tell you about that tomorrow.

Night
