19 AUG 2010

My headache got worse during the night to confirm that both Wes and I were fighting off something. By morning my headache had receded sufficiently.

Today we plan to return to New Brunswick via the Confederation Bridge. This bridge is 8 miles long and connects PEI to the mainland. I have driven over it before but it is really a marvel each time. Remember I mentioned that to get onto the island there is not fee, but to get off you pay, so we paid 42.50 to return to the mainland. One has to marvel at the engineering feat and the improvement to access to the island life the bridge has provided.

When we got to New Brunswick Wes really wanted to see Heather’s Beach where the family cottage is (or the one that had been owned by Grandma). So we drove up the coast back into Nova Scotia to find the cottage. It is not a long distance but at Northport the bridge was out, so it meant a detour – which took us on some back roads. Again really interesting.

The cottage was hard to find since the area has been built up and I have not seen it since 2005. However, we stopped to talk to a lady who has lived there since 1942 and she assured me of the right cottage. Memories flowed as we stood and looked down on the beach. I am so glad we stopped by.

Off to find the Hopewell Cape and the Rock Flower Pots. This is a natural erosion along the Bay of Fundy where tall rock pillars are created by erosion caused by the tides. At the top of these pillars is vegetation growing creating the concept of a flower pots. When the tide is in these pots sit above water, but when the tide is out, the seashore is available for walking around. It seemed that many parents had frowns as they watched their children walk, run and play in the mud. I am sure the silt will do wonders for the washing machines. Fortunately for us, we were able to pick our way around the mud and walk along the shore exploring the cliffs, rock faces and flower pots.

We left this area to continue on towards Fredericton driving through the Fundy National Park.

Once we got to Fredericton we had the pleasure of visiting with my cousin Bruce and his wife to be, Dede. (They are getting married this next weekend - CONGRATULATIONS!!)
